Images and Image Sickness
The reason I started creating this website was because i began to see suffering all around me. The suffering I am referring to is not caused by violence or abuse. This sickness or dis-ease is widespread. Rare is the person who is free from its symptoms. I term this dis-ease: Image Sickness. In this essay I will begin by defining what an image is and how images in the mind can lead to Image Sickness.
Images
Any letter, word, thought, visualization, idea, knowledge, memory, expectation, belief, theory, and hypothesis is an Image. Any combination of any of these will combine to form ever more complex images. Every culture has evolved a multi-faceted image landscape over time that is truly huge and magnificent. Tremendous mountains of cultural images woven and stacked layer upon layer evolved over thousands of years. During one's lifetime we accrue snapshot after snapshot of memories, ideas, and belief. For the undisciplined mind thoughts never seem to cease for a moment. All of these Image types are useful tools and have accelerated the growth of the human mind to current state of a deep ocean of images in which each individual is immersed.
One must realize an important truth. All images are illusions; unreal, unreality, merely possible and not actual. Even factual ideas and science are only abstractions meant to as closely as possible describe the REAL energy being studied or manipulated. I call images arbitrarily bounded abstraction fragments. The unified field can be divided an infinite number of ways into sets of arbitrarily bounded abstraction fragments.
Image Sickness
Images in themselves are not harmful. Our lack of understanding of the actual mechanical and electromagnetic processes of images in our minds creates a dim unconscious awareness of our own Image environmental field. Without being conscious of these tools they can harm us as being unaware of chainsaw operation could lead to severe injury.Any image that you can consciously face and objectify can be used as a tool. Any image that is unconsciously attended to habitually, compulsory, like an addiction becomes a slave-master with you being the slave.
Image sickness I estimate afflicts near 99% of the people of the world and leads to mass individual suffering as well as the continuation of the cycle of hurting oneself and others. Depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, and psychosis are severe manifestations.
People often care what other people think. In other words people attempt to conform to others images. Relationships fail because of the illusory hurt of expectations unfulfilled. What if I called you a stupid dumbass. Would you get angry with me? Why? How have I hurt you? My voice produces vibrations of air which in no physical way harm your body. What is harmed is that your image of yourself is threatened. We feel a sense of pain and dying when our image of ourselves is attacked, or destroyed. The pain caused by an identification with one of our images. When we identify with an image we integrate into our "idea" of self and we literally think we're under attack when our identified image is under attack.
One example of Image Sickness is lets say a orphan child who stays in a foster home. The man of the home constantly berates the young child and calls him a "stupid dumbass" for years as he grows up. Even though he is an intelligent person the image of "stupid dumbass" could be implanted habitually in his mind and cause him to create his life according to that image. The life he would live when he sees he is an intelligent, capable person would be totally different and would most likely lead to success. I would cause the implanted thought "stupid dumbass" a contributor to a form of image sickness.
Parents want the best for their children. They often place high expectations on them to succeed. The failure to meet these expectations sometimes results in punishment. This mental failure creates low self-esteem. Would it not be better to let children grow naturally? Their natural talents and interests will shine out in time. Why encumber your family and friends with expectations when we could all love and accept the incredible diversity which grows organically--not linearly.
How about depression? A person who is depressed travel down a spiral of every darkening thoughts. These thoughts are not real. What is real is who you are and the ACTUAL amazing potential of EVERY individual. Again illusory thoughts cause a dis-ease in the mind. Sometime real events occur in a person''s life which devastate them through memory. Although the event is real we have the power to understand that the memory is only a image and we can master consciously understand and release out of one''s mind.
Organized peer pressure often overwhelms a person and forms their mind with rigid belief structures. Although not intrinsically harmful belief can make one rigid and especially closed off to their own God given senses and many, many reasonable ideas. Not attending to all your natural senses in balance as the primary tool of perception is a dis-ease.
